Born in the city of Burgas and raised in the resort town of Primorsko, which is located on the coast of the Black Sea in Bulgaria,
Vesela Peneva was surrounded by the sights, sounds and tastes of romantic Eastern Europe.
Having moved to the United States in 1996, Vesela brought with her the rich history of
natural, home-made foods that the cultural and culinary crossroad of Bulgaria so famously represents.
After settling down and having two beautiful daughters, she began to explore her life-long
love of creating desserts from local, seasonal ingredients.
Recalling her youth in Primorsko, with its downtown cafes, street-side bakeries selling
kifli and banitza, spending her summer days at the beach eating mekitzi with yogurt and
spending her evenings canning, baking and preparing dinner with her grandmother in
their family home, she pulls from a great wealth of inspiration for her culinary creations.
Now at home in the U.S., she has been honing her skills at locally-known favorite restaurants such as Selland's, The Kitchen,
The Buckhorn / Putah Creek Cafe (in Winters, CA), and most recently, the Coffee Garden,
in preparation for embarking on her life-long dream of owning her own pastry shop
in her adopted home-town of Sacramento, CA.
